About this work

Three men sit on the ground in front of a gentleman on a cushion. A servant holds a tray with a letter on it. Hôjô Yasutoki (1183-1242) was an advisor for the Kamakura government (bakufu). Here he receives an honor from Minamoto no Sanetomo (on the cushion) for his obedience to his parents. The booklet the Mirror of the East (Azuma kagami) is compiled in the late Kamakura period (1249-1382). With two poems.
