About this work

The actor Ichikawa Danjûrô VII (1791-1859) sitting on a cushion with an open fan in the left hand and a brush in the right hand. He is probably about to write a poem on the fan. Behind him stand his richly decorated dressing table and mirror. Danjûrô was very popular as an actor and poet and was often asked by admirers to sign a fan. With two poems.
