About this work

The actor Matsumoto Kôshirô V (1764-1838) sits before his dressing table. He smokes a long pipe. The title Sekidera is a play on the play of the same name, in which the actor has performed. With one anonymous poem. The 'Seven Komachi' in the title refers to seven events from the life of the famous female poet Ono no Komachi. The relationship with Komachi in this print is that the head of the Sekidera temple took his followers at the right moment to meet the old Komachi.
