About this work

A woman in extravagant dress holds a stick to which a sake kettle hangs. This is the male actor Segawa Kikunojô V (1802-32) in the female role of Tomoe Gozen. She was the beloved of Minamoto no Yoshinaka, depicted on the right sheet of this diptych. With four poems.
