Courtesan preparing for the night

A courtesan removes her purple hand warmers by candlelight, in preparation for the night. With one poem. The concept of "Eight Views" originates from Chinese poetry, was adopted by Chinese painting, and subsequently by Japanese art. It was one of the first themes used in Japanese printmaking, often combined with famous places around Lake Biwa in Ômi province (Eight Views of Ômi), or the capital Edo (Eight Views of the Eastern Capital). It also frequently appears in other compositions, such as the different times of day, generally depicted in combination with fashionable ladies.
