About this work

The Empress Kômyôgô wrapped in a summer kimono (yukata) looks at a large toad. Kômyôgô was the wife of Emperor Shômu (701-756) and established the public bathhouses in Japan. One day she was tested by Buddha when he appeared before her as a leper. The toad refers to this incident. With two poems.
