About this work
Before Tobias slept with his wife Sara, he placed the liver and heart of the fish on a fire to drive away the demon that possessed Sara and had killed all the men she had married. In the background, the demon flees and is pursued by Raphael with a sword. In the foreground, Sara kneels in prayer, asking God for blessing and protection over her marriage to Tobias. Around the image is an inscription in Dutch and Latin.
