About this work

On the left stands Gideon with a flail in his hand by the grain. He looks at the angel of God, who sits under a tree. The angel asks him in God's name to liberate Israel. In the background the angel causes fire to flare up from a rock, so that the food burns to prove that God is indeed asking him for a favor. Behind this scene it is visible that the angel flies away. In the margin a one-line inscription in Latin.
