About this work

A triumphal arch dedicated to poetry, with various scenes. At the top a portrait medallion flanked by angels blowing trumpets. An angel with an inverted torch and the personification of faith flank the arch. Through the opening the beheading of the two sons of Brutus. In the foreground Father Time with a scythe, three music-playing putti and a beehive with the coat of arms of Amsterdam.
