About this work

King Rehoboam sent Adoniram, his overseer of the forced labor, to the rebellious Israelites. The people stone Adoniram, who holds a money bag in his hand, which he presumably intended to use for collecting taxes. In the background, King Rehoboam escapes in his chariot to Jerusalem. Below the image is a reference in Latin to the biblical text in 1 Kings 12:18. This print is part of an album.
