About this work
A winter landscape. In the sky the astrological sign of January, the Water-bearer. In the bottom left corner the stable where Joseph and his family lie sleeping. Joseph is woken by an angel and warned of the plans of Herod (Matt. 2). In the bottom right corner the family departs for Egypt. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of a series about the life of Christ depicted in the twelve months of the year.
