About this work

Wealthy people often enjoyed social gatherings and banquets in gardens. Music was a key component of these events, serving as a language of merriment and enjoyment. Both men and women participated by singing or playing. Some string instruments, such as citterns and lutes, were particularly convenient for these outdoor performances, as they were lightweight and easy to transport.
