About this work
Empty medallion flanked by the Muses of tragedy and comedy, respectively Melpomene and Thalia. Melpomene holds a dagger in her hands; on her lap lies a crown with scepter. Thalia holds a fool's stick; at her foot lies a laughing mask. In the background, a woman with lyre under her arm points to the stage where Minerva drives away two demonic figures. In the clouds, an angel is crowned by a putto.
