About this work

Monument or epitaph for the German theologian Johannes Schelhammer in the Evangelical Lutheran Church on the Lutherse Burgwal in The Hague. A plate with a Latin inscription in his memory is the center of an architectural frame. This is crowned by a medallion depicting the symbol of Christ's suffering: a pelican feeding its young with its own blood. Two mourning women flank a portrait of Schelhammer.
