About this work
The angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will become pregnant. Mary sits kneeling by a bed, on which lies an open book. The Holy Spirit descends as a dove. In the background Joseph chops wood. Print is part of a series on the eight Beatitudes of Christ and illustrates the Beatitude: Blessed are the pure in heart. In the right lower corner this text from Matt. 5:8 in Latin. At the bottom in the margin a verse in Latin about the Beatitude and the scene.
