About this work
The bronze statue of Helios, also known as the Colossus of Rhodes, stands straddling the harbor while ships sail beneath his legs. At his feet: people in a posture of worship. After the earthquake around 227 BC, the statue was destroyed. In the foreground, the enormous head of the statue is being cleaned. A man in the front left holds a sketch of the Colossus on a tablet. Below the image: a verse in Latin. This print is part of an album.
