About this work
The winged personification of Vigilance (Vigilantia) sits with an oil lamp in her hand and reads a book. To her right, an hourglass and a closed book are depicted; to her left, a cross lies on an open book near a tree. She stands with her foot on the personification of Sloth (Acedia), who lies on the ground before her asleep. The print has a Latin caption and is part of a series on virtues and vices.
