About this work
The personification of History, seated on the floor, writes together with the personification of Inspiration the history of Great Britain. To the right by a pillar sits the personification of Great Britain, seated on a lion. In her hands the coat of arms of England, used by Charles II and James II. In the foreground three putti try to hold back the winged Time, who tears and eats books. Above the personification of Fame, blowing a trumpet. She wears the portrait in an oval frame of the French historian Isaac de Larrey. In the background the city of London. In the lower margin a four-line French text.
