About this work

The virtuous woman sells clothes she has made herself to a merchant. In the background a ship is being unloaded at the quay. The print is based on Proverbs 31:14: 'She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar' and Proverbs 31:24: 'She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant'. Below the image a paraphrase of these Bible verses in German. This print forms part of an album.
