About this work
The virtuous woman places a crown on the head of her husband, who sits before her. In the background the elders of the city look at the man in admiration. The image is based on Proverbs 12:4: 'A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband' and Proverbs 31:23: 'Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land'. Below the image a paraphrase of this latter Bible verse in German. This print forms part of an album.
