About this work
Jonah sits on a rock above the city of Nineveh, waiting for God to destroy the city. God has caused a miracle plant to grow for him so he can sit in the shade. But the next day the plant withers, its leaves hang limp, and Jonah is overcome by the heat. He holds his cloak over his head against the burning sun. Jonah is angry at the plant and at the fact that God did not destroy the city. He speaks to God, who appears on the clouds. Below the scene is a Latin reference to the biblical text in Jonah 4. This print is part of an album.
