About this work

Three scenes from stories in the Metamorphoses on one sheet. Top: Amor shoots at a stag. Perhaps Actaeon. Middle: Atalanta and Hippomenus compete in a footrace. Atalanta picks up the golden apples that Hippomenus drops, causing her to lose the race. Bottom: Pygmalion, king of Cyprus, falls in love with the statue of Venus he has created. The statue comes to life.
