About this work

In the large pond of the gardens of Versailles, a theater erected representing the island of Alcine with a small castle where a ballet is performed. The royal company sits, seen from behind in the foreground, watching the spectacle. In the pond, before the island, float three water monsters. Below the performance, a drapery with the title.
