About this work

An actor in the role of Sukeroku stands with a geisha in training (shinzô) in front of a large wooden vat of water. On the vat, in white, the Japanese character for 'water' (mizu), above it smaller water buckets, and on the planks the street name 'Edomachi'; the main street of the Yoshiwara. Accompanied by one poem.
