About this work
A bronze statue of a tiger stands in a niche (tokonoma) with New Year decorations, including strips of paper and fern leaves, and a painting with calligraphy. The tiger refers to the new year of the Tiger (1806), and the red characters between the calligraphy on the painting indicate the long months for that year. With one poem, on the painting.
