About this work

The Great Council in Venice of 1566. In bird's-eye view, the Sala del Maggior Consiglio in the Doge's Palace in Venice during a vote. The clergy sit side by side in long rows of benches. Boys with ballot boxes in their hands walk between the benches, into which the ballots are placed. Large windows on the right. On the back wall of the hall a wall fresco (by Guariento). Above, two cartouches with text in Italian. In the lower margin, Latin text in three columns.
