About this work

Two women both claim to be the mother of a living baby and ask Solomon for his judgment. Solomon sits on his throne. In front of him the two mothers. The soldier next to him is about to cut the baby in two, whereupon the mother on the left kneels with raised arms to protest. The other, deceased baby lies on the steps in front of the throne. At the bottom in the margin a one-line Latin inscription.
