About this work
Left upper side of an allegorical representation with top left the portrait of Armand-Jean du Plessis Duke of Richelieu, seated on a chair with to his right muses or nymphs who offer him various coats of arms. In the middle stands Apollo with his lyre with behind him a view to the outside, where the mast of a ship is visible. Above him fly angels or putti with portraits of various figures. To the right of Apollo are various figures (including possibly Hercules) who fight a lion. In the middle below lies Neptune amidst anchors, his retinue.
