About this work
King Solomon, from his throne, points to a kneeling woman with a baby, while an executioner is about to split the child in two. Solomon had given the executioner this order after two women came to him, both claiming motherhood of the child. When the executioner raised his sword, the true mother offered to give up the child, whereupon Solomon knew who the true mother was.
