About this work

Visiting prisoners as one of the seven works of mercy. In the center, people visiting two men shackled in stocks. In the background, an angel freeing Peter from prison. Surrounding scenes from biblical stories related to visiting and freeing prisoners. Upper left: Lot freed by Abraham, upper right: David defeating the Amalekites and freeing his wives, lower right: Daniel freed from the lions' den, lower left: prisoners being visited. On the left, the prophet Jeremiah; on the right, King Solomon. Various biblical texts in Latin within the composition. A four-line verse in Latin below the scene. This print is part of an album.
