About this work
The bronze statue of Helios, also known as the Colossus of Rhodes, stands straddling the harbor while ships sail beneath its legs. At its feet, people are in a posture of worship. After the earthquake around 227 BC, the statue was destroyed. In the foreground, the enormous head of the statue is being cleaned. A man in the front left holds a sketch of the Colossus on a tablet. Below the image, a verse in Latin. This print is part of an album.
