About this work

In a room, a servant stands next to a wardrobe in which he is storing his master's cloak. The 1633 edict forbade wearing overly luxurious clothing. The servant wears a jacket adorned with bows, his shirt sleeves have wide, double cuffs, and his shoes have large rosettes. On the table lie the master's waistcoat and knee breeches, which, like the cloak, will be stored in the wardrobe.
