About this work

Standing man dressed in a rhingrave costume, consisting of a short waistcoat (innocent), rectangular cravat with points, shirt, wide knee breeches with ribbons on both sides, and stockings. A wide cloak is draped over the shoulders and arms. Hat with a broad floppy brim on the long wig. Flat shoes. This print is the 5th state of number 18, and belongs to a series of approx. 24 costume prints, from Figures a la mode dédiées a Mr Le Duc de Bourgogne, published by Etienne Jeaurat, Paris, ca. 1685.
