About this work

Walking woman flanked by two men. She wears a plain 'Lévite' (jacket-dress) trimmed with a band of ruffled tulle and a belt 'according to the latest fashion', of dotted ribbon with fringes at the ends. On the 'demie négligée' hairstyle, a tulband or 'toque à la Levantine' with pearls and plumes or 'panaches'. The man on the left wears a frock coat, waistcoat, and breeches, a hat with a flat crown and upturned brim, shoes with square buckles. He looks through a telescope and holds a walking stick. The kneeling man on the right surreptitiously hands a letter to the woman. Print from series ee. 29th Cahier de Costumes Français bis Pour servir de Supplément à la 7e suite d'habillements à la mode en 1780, Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français.
