About this work

Woman, seen from the back, dressed in a 'robe à la Romaine' or a skirt trimmed at the hem with an olive branch motif. Her hair styled 'à la Bérenice'. Over her left shoulder a dotted scarf, trimmed with embroidery at the edges. Further accessories: folding fan, long gloves, shoe with straps and a pointed upturned toe. The print is part of a series of at least 82 fashion prints, Collection consacrée aux Modes d'hommes et de femmes, published by Basset, Paris, between 1783 and 1813.
