About this work

Woman with child, seen from the back. She has a hairstyle 'à la Titus' and wears a small checkered fichu over a tulle mantelet, trimmed with lace. Gown with short sleeves, high waist and train. Accessories: earring in the left ear, handkerchief, bracelets on both wrists, flat shoe with pointed toe. The girl wears a colored gown with short sleeves. On her head a dotted cap. According to the caption, this representation was drawn from life on the 'Boulevart(!) de la Ma[g]deleine'. The print is part of the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes, published by Sellèque, Paris, 1797-1839.
