About this work

French lady, seen from the back, in equestrian pose on a horse. On her head a velvet hat. She wears a fashionable equestrian costume or riding habit with a 'jabot toùrnant'(?). Whip in hand. Print from the fashion magazine La Belle Assemblée, or Bell's Court and Fashionable Magazine Addressed Particularly to the Ladies (1806-1832). According to the caption, the engraving is after an original drawing made on the spot at Longchamps Elysées in Paris for La Belle Assemblée. The print is, however, a copy after Pl. 611, 15 January 1805, from the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes, published by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797-1839.
