Daphne Chased by Apollo Transformed into a Laurel Tree

In the 1620s, Magdalena de Passe undertook an ambitious project: a series of mythological representations based on Ovid's Metamorphoses. The talented printmaker designed most of the compositions herself. Here, she depicted the dramatic love stories of the nymph Daphne, who is transformed into a laurel tree, and Andromeda, who is saved by the hero Perseus. The prints' 17th-century owner, collector Michiel Hinloopen, identified the scenes with an inscription.
