About this work

Arcas, the son of Jupiter and Callisto, aims his arrow at a bear, not knowing that it is his mother. She was turned into a bear fifteen years earlier by Juno out of jealousy. In the background right, Jupiter places mother and son in the sky as constellations. In the lower margin, a four-line explanation in two columns, in Latin.
