About this work
Daedalus and Icarus, father and son, escape from the island of Crete with wings fastened to their shoulders with wax. Icarus flies too high, causing the sun to melt the wax. On the right, the fall of Icarus. In the sea, a sea monster swims. On the left in the foreground, Daedalus buries his son Icarus. Below the image, a text from Ovid's Metamorphoses, Book 8, lines 203-205. At the top, the sign of the Weighing Scales from the zodiac. The print is part of an album.
