About this work
In the foreground, the Philistines fill up the wells that Abraham's servants had once dug. They were filled with earth. The Philistines were jealous of the wealth of Abraham's son Isaac. King Abimelech therefore advised Isaac and Rebekah to leave. To the right in the background, the flocks of sheep, goats, and cattle are on their way to the valley of Gerar, where Isaac and his wife went to live (Gen. 26:15). The print is part of an album.
