About this work
Landscape with a river. In the foreground on the left, the sleeping Jacob with a stone as a pillow. He dreams of a ladder reaching to heaven and of angels climbing up and down. In the clouds, a tetragram replaces the image of God the Father. God promises the land to Jacob's descendants. On the left in the background, Jacob dedicates the stone he used as a headrest by pouring oil over it. He named the place Bethel, House of God (Gen. 28:11). The print is part of an album.
