About this work

Satirical print on the Leiden clerk C. Seyn being led to prison by two officers. In the background, an auction house for furniture where a group of women sing and dance in joy over the arrest. For his hobby (paintings), Seyn had stolen from the city treasury. On the right, some paintings leaning against a cabinet, a pot of syrup, and a peacock feather. The theft was discovered on 10 October 1838, the sentence pronounced on 27 September 1839.
