About this work
Midai and Chidori play backgammon. Midai is the first wife of Shigeuji, Chidori his concubine. The status of the first wife can be read, among other things, from her chair, which has an armrest. The poem by Fujiwara no Sanekata Ason refers to the deep jealousy the women feel for each other. Scene from a kabuki play.
