About this work

An emblem with two scenes: above, a woman in a radiant halo on a pedestal with the letter C. The figure holds a palm branch and a book. Behind her, a pyre of people. Below, two braided columns with a crown flanked by two women with torches. These are the devices of King Charles IX of France.
