About this work

The personification of the Roman Catholic Church with bishop's staff, papal tiara, and a book leans forward towards the kneeling Piety (Pietas) and Zeal (Zelus) with lightning bolts. Above her, cherubs in clouds and a dove in a halo of rays as a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
