The writer Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux grabs a satyr, who personifies satire, by the arm. The satyr holds a scale with the names of Virgilius and Chapelain. In the background the mountain Parnassus. The scene is enclosed in an ornamental frame with two dragons in the top corners.
