About this work
The Just Prince (Allegory of Good Governance). The blind prince sits on a throne, holding a scepter with closed eyes, surrounded by councilors without hands. At the bottom, an inscription and two Bible texts. The representation is based on the emblem of Andrea Alciati with explanation in Dutch texts: the good prince is blind and judges without partiality, and his councilors are insensitive to bribes (represented by their handless arms).
