About this work

View of a square in Nancy (Place de la Carrière or Rue Neuve) in front of the ducal palace, lined with houses. Various festivities and performances take place on this square, probably for Carnival. Acrobats, parade floats, and a mock battle are visible. Above the scene is the coat of arms of the Duke of Lorraine, carried by two eagles, surrounded by a scroll with French text.
