About this work
Three women, personifications of Valencia, Castile, and Aragon, enter the throne room with weapons ready, where the Spanish King Philip II is sleeping while seated on his throne. Next to the king stands the personification of the Inquisition with a burning torch. In the lower margin, an eight-line verse in German. Political caricature about events in the year 1575 during the Eighty Years' War.
